S180 Wrexham Homelessness Project
Overview of the service
The Wrexham Response project is a multi agency partnership approach including the Substance Misuse Action Team Co-ordinator, CAIS Young Persons Substance Misuse Service, the NHS Trust, Wrexham Youth Service, Shelter Cymru, Compass-Barnados and the community.
The partnership for this project comprises of CAIS, the Youth-Service and the Health Trust. The ideology was for it to be a rapid response for young peoples drug and alcohol needs for the borough of Wrexham.
Objective -
'To provide a peripatetic outreach support service for individuals and communities for whom homelessness, rooflessness and substance misuse is a cyclical pattern adversely affecting their lives'.
Aims -
To engage young people for whom current services in Wrexham aren't appropriate.
To reduce instances of homelessness and rooflessness throughout the borough of Wrexham.
To provide a qualitative, long-term advice/support service for young people experiencing issues around substance misuse
and homelessness.
To promote a harm reduction culture within work practice for all those experiencing homelessness and rooflessness.
To be instrumental in monitoring and recording instances of rough sleeping throughout the borough, and then in partnership with other agencies formulate an effective response.
To, in partnership with other housing agencies, develop an efficient young person-centred referral process that enables all 16 and 17 yr olds with a housing need be seen quickly and then referred to the appropriate agency by September 2002.
To meet with appropriate agencies, communities and individuals to promote honest and open discussion precipitating a supportive platform for the opening of the direct access hostel.
