I began volunteering with CAIS in February 2013. I had been in Llandudno with my sister when I saw Caffi CAIS and I thought it would be a nice place to be a volunteer. I spoke to the CAIS volunteer coordinator and after taking some references I began volunteering at Caffi CAIS as their gardener. The Caffi had lots of flowers and plants and regularly entered Llandudno in Bloom.
After a while as my confidence began to grow, I completed some training with the Caffi CAIS team and began helping in the kitchen. In the Summer I volunteered up to 5 days a week!
Volunteering with CAIS has helped to give me real skills and it gives me something to get up for. I get treated like an equal at CAIS and I’m very happy here.
When Porter’s Coffee Shop and Bistro opened last year, I asked if I could try volunteering there a few days a week as it’s a bigger and busier café. I’m always keen to improve my skills, I really enjoy cooking and helping with the food preparation. I’m looking forward to learning how to make other meals, I even cook more at home!
I think that Porter’s has gone from strength to strength. I would highly recommend volunteering at Porter’s as it is friendly, professional and it gives you valuable skills for work.
